Ayurveda Unwrapped

Simple, natural and effective Ayurvedic remedies for vibrant health and deep healing

My love for Ayurveda didn’t happen overnight. In fact, it was quietly developing in the background for years. I just didn’t know what I was looking for until I found it, at which point, I felt home.

When I was fourteen years old, I developed an eating disorder. I saw numerous doctors and specialists, and not even one of them tried to consider or understand my foundational relationship with food. How I saw it… how I felt about it… or why…

When I was in my early twenties, I developed multiple throat infections. The doctors were quick to hand out antibiotics, over and over again. Nobody looked at my diet or my lifestyle. Nobody asked me about my daily activities or routines. I blindly took the anti-biotics to mask the symptoms, and soon developed severe gut issues that had me unable to get out of bed for hours, sometimes even days.

When I was in my late 20’s, I experienced consecutive unexplainable miscarriages before having my first son. I did rounds and rounds of blood tests. Not one person asked me about my day-to-day lifestyle or food intake. No-body looked at my state or mind or stress levels.

After I gave my birth to my beautiful boy, and my heart was filled with immense joy, I quickly tried to lose the “baby weight” with daily salads and smoothies. For a while I felt OK. But I soon developed post-natal anxiety and severe depletion.

When my son began to grow up, especially once at daycare, he started to get sick. Doctors were again quick to hand me prescriptions to medicines and antibiotics. Having personally experienced the sever gut implications from multiple rounds of antibiotics, I didn’t want to do that to my child. But I didn’t know what else to do.

After having my second beautiful boy, and engaging in the same baby-weight-loss protocol of salads and smoothies, something finally had to give. I was looking after a busy toddler, and breastfeeding my sweet babe, all while running on zero. Walking up the stairs became increasingly difficult and it wasn’t long before I was experiencing quite severe chronic fatigue.

Finally, at long last, Ayurveda found me.

Within months of making some small changes, I started to feel myself come back to life. My energy started coming back and my vitality started re-emerging, after years in hiding. I hadn’t felt that same sense of inner joy or calm in such a long time, and I couldn’t believe that just a few small diet and lifestyle changes had made such a profound impact. I often say that, to me, Ayurveda feels like a big hug. It helps me to truly feel held. It is so soft and gentle, yet so strong and powerful. And I became increasingly passionate about not only how it could heal me, but also how it could help and support my family. Not long after, I started my formal studies and today, I am so honoured ad passionate to share this beautiful health science with the world.

I want to make clear that I am not at all anti the Western Medical System. In fact, I think it is phenomenal. The advances in medications and surgeries have saved so many lives, and I see Ayurveda as complementary to, and not an alternative to Western Medicine. In fact, the concept of many modern fields of medicine, including surgery first originated with Ayurveda. The part I get disheartened by is how quickly most doctors are to hand out drugs before trying to understand the root cause.

My goal is to help keep you identify issues early, heal them naturally, and stay balanced and healthy enough to avoid serious illness and disease and all the prescriptions that come with them.

If illness has already hit, then my goal is to help provide you with the natural and holistic remedies that can support whatever other medications you may need to take, with the hope that, with expedited healing, you can take less of those medications and for a lesser period of time. When problems pop up, which they will, I hope that these episodes will help you better understand and identify the root cause of the problem, and the natural remedies that can address it before needing to put foreign substances onto and into your body.

I think of this podcast as your on-call Ayurvedic consultant.
It is a series of episodes, organised by health challenge and goal, to help you find and apply simple, natural, and effective Ayurvedic remedies to achieve improved health and deep healing. It is my hope, that over time, the more you understand the Ayurvedic principles and solutions, the more you will start to learn the language of Ayurveda and speak it in your day-to-day life. And with this, I hope you are able to find the type of deep, beautiful, life-changing transformation that I have been blessed with.

Happy listening,

Katie
